The colonial past of the Netherlands. What do you know about it? Do you ever talk about it with someone you know, or perhaps someone you don’t know at all?
We would love to discuss this theme on Tuesday, May 27, from 12:00 to 14:00 at the HU Library in Utrecht. In collaboration with the Diversity & Inclusion network, we are creating space for dialogue around our shared past.
Wanted! Are you someone who experiences or has lived through the history, effects, and nuances of the Netherlands’ colonial past in your own life? Do you have experiences or insights that can help others better understand our shared history so we can truly live together? Then you’re exactly who we’re looking for!
During this special event, “Let’s talk about: a shared past”, visitors will have the opportunity to engage in discussions with experts by experience. As an expert, you will tell your story, share your experiences, and engage in conversation with people eager to learn, discover, and connect.
We are looking for representative experts who can share stories from different backgrounds, including:
- Indonesia
- Suriname
- Curaçao, Aruba, Bonaire, St. Maarten, St. Eustatius, and Saba
- The Netherlands
What can you expect?
- A safe and respectful environment to share your story.
- Meaningful conversations with people who are genuinely interested.
- An opportunity to contribute to greater understanding and connection in our society.
Practical information
- We will start at 11AM with a lunch and all of the volunteers and participants to get to know each other and prepare for the event.
- From 12PM till 2PM we will be ready for meaningful conversations.
- From 2PM till 3PM we will get together once more to end this amazing event with Surinamese snacks ánd you will receive a thank you gift in line with the theme of the event. You don’t wanna miss this!
